The 2016 LTA National Coaches’ Conference was a great success and created a great networking opportunity for coaches, speakers, guests and exhibitors. The weekend was opened by Michael Downey (LTA CEO) and Dan Thorp (Head of Coach Development), and was then lead by international speakers across a range of topics. Kenneth Bastiaens took the coaches through motor development for success in sport and Allistair McCaw (internationally recognised leader in the field of athletic performance enhancement) demonstrated to coaches how to invest in themselves.
During the coffee breaks, coaches had the opportunity to experience the Partner Pavilion, which showcased 30 companies. This enabled the companies to advertise what is on offer to coaches, and gave the coaches a chance to test their resources. Mats Merkel (responsible for talent identification for Adidas) talked coaches through fine tuning a player’s game before the coaches enjoyed a well-earnt barbeque in the evening.
Sunday kicked off with an on-court demonstration from Louis Cayer on technical training, and the day ended with an inspirational presentation from Aegon GB Davis Cup Captain, Leon Smith. Coaches left the conference full of enthusiasm, increased knowledge and loads of energy to take on court with them.
